This charity was created after the tsunami of 2004 to provide a good English language education to children in Phuket.
What is social impact?
The Foundation teaches English to over 1000 children from 4 to 18 years old in 3 Government schools around Phuket Island.
There are currently 7 fluent English-speaking teachers employed by the NGO and they receive more than 50 volunteers per year to assist them.
The Foundation also runs some extra-scholar activities (named Coconut Program) for over 140 residential students.
The kindergarten (from 4 to 8 years old) is in the morning and then volunteers go teach to teenagers in the afternoon. Volunteers are expected to participate to office tasks tailored to their skills.
At Coconut Club, volunteers take part in sport, arts or craft activities and games with the children after school. The aim of Coconut Club is for the children to practice their English outside the classroom environment
Volunteers work from 9am to 3.30pm + preparation of the next day’s activities after school. A minimum level of English is expected so you can communicate with the children and teach them proper English.
Volunteers join weekly meetings with all the administration of the Foundation. Only volunteers who help 3 months minimum assist English teachers to offer work in small groups with the children.
Feel free to join on Saturdays; the Coconut club organizes birthday parties, swimming and other fun activities for the children.
Volunteers usually stay in a hostel located in Phuket. The Foundation will help you to find a good place if needed. For example, it is easy to visit paradise islands in the weekend: Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, and so much more.
If you like teaching kids and turquoise seawater, this volunteering mission is for you!
